Employment Specialist - Kent

Description: 

Provide effective, recovery-based supported employment services as part of the Grand Rapids/Kent Employment Services Team.

Responsibilities: 

Duties include:

  • Assess individual strengths, skills/ interests and assist with identifying suitable competitive employment options

  • Teach necessary job-related skills to enhance successful placements for individuals

  • contacting potential employers

  • Develop jobs that meet varied individual’s needs in competitive community-based work settings

  • Provide job coaching to promote retention of employment

  • Maintain regular contacts with assigned clinical team(s) to ensure integration of employment and mental health services for mutually served individuals.

  • Assist with personalized benefits planning to help individuals calculate the amount of money they can earn without disrupting benefits (i.e. Medicaid, Medicare, SSI, and SSDI).

  • Communicate services provided by Employment Services to referral sources, potential employers, families and advocates to maximize opportunities for individuals

  • Support co-workers by being an active team player, actively participating in meetings and daily contacts.

Requirements: 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with people with mental illness required.

  • Background in vocational, mental health, social work or related field necessary.

  • Employment Training Specialist certification preferred. 

  • Effective communication, negotiation skills, organizational ability, and problem-solving skill required.

  • Valid Michigan driver’s license and a vehicle for on-the job use required. 

  • Ability to perform work in community settings which may not be barrier-free necessary.
