Substance Abuse Clinician - Kalamazoo

Description: 
  1. Provide substance abuse treatment to individuals with co-occurring disorders utilizing applicable evidence based practice standards.

Responsibilities: 

Complete intake, assessment, and person-centered planning processes that identify stage of change and treatment for each participant according to required timeframes using active engagement strategies to elicit individuals’ commitment to participate in treatment.  Coordinate with other primary clinicians as needed.

Lead or co-lead clinical group sessions.  Elicit participation of all group members in discussions, role-plays, and skill-building exercises

Utilize curriculum for clinical groups that matches participants’ stage treatment with their stage of change.  Monitor and adapt curricula as needed based on participant feedback and outcomes.

Provide individual therapy to individuals consistent with their treatment plans.

Provide education and support to family members and significant others and collateral and other community supports to create a supportive network for individuals’ recovery

Communicate in a manner that demonstrates respect for persons served and others, and assures their right to privacy and confidentiality.

Requirements: 

Master’s degree in a human service field required with CAC credential and license to practice or certification for third-party reimbursement.  At least one year direct experience working with people who have severe and persistent mental illness, including experience in substance abuse treatment required.  Specialized substance abuse training and co-occurring experience preferred.  Life experiences with diverse racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, including experience with behavioral health issues preferred.  Must be supportive of culturally competent, recovery-based practices, and person-centered planning as a shared decision-making process.  Must support trauma-informed culture of safety to aid persons served in their recovery process.  Good communication, motivation, and negotiation skills; computer competency; and excellent organizational skills required.  Valid Michigan driver’s license and a vehicle to transport.  Ability to perform work in community settings which may not be barrier-free.
