InterAct of Michigan, Inc. Mission Statement:
To ensure and enhance the quality of life and treatment for individuals
whose lives have been disrupted by the chronic signs and symptoms of
mental illness and other related disabilities through the development of
effective community-based services.
Agency History
InterAct was incorporated as a private, non-profit agency in 1991--originally
called ACT of Kalamazoo. Since that time, the agency has built a reputation
as a premiere provider of Assertive Community Treatment
(ACT) services in the state and nationally. The agency offers the
following continuum of services:
- Assertive Community Treatment is an evidence based
practice model of treatment for people who have
difficulty managing their serious mental illness and need intensive
supports to achieve their goals of living successfully in the community.
InterAct has 2 ACT teams serving 260 individuals with 24 hour/7
day service capacity.
- Community Treatment Team Case Management
services began in 1995 and currently serves about 450 people through individual
case managers with Team backup.
- Since 1998, Action Employment Services has
utilized evidence based practice Supported employment services to assist
over 200 people a year to choose, get, and keep employment
at more than 130 different community sites. Services for developmentally disabled adults are also available
through a subcontract with Supported Employment Opportunities (SEO).
- The Center for DBT Services provides evidence based practice
dialectical behavior therapy for people who experience
severe emotional dysregulation. DBT services have been offered to
ACT consumers since 1995. The Center for DBT Services has served both
adults and adolescents since 1999.
- Since 1999, Community Payee Services has provided
budgeting help to over 350 individuals each year who have been determined by the
Social Security Administration to need money management assistance.
- In 2000, the agency began to provide Substance Abuse
Services for Co-occurring Disorders utilizing the skills-based Substance
Abuse Management Module to teach people with dual disorders how to keep their mental
illness under control, recover from substance abuse, and to enjoy life more fully.
The program collaborates with ACT to implement the evidence based practice
Integrated Dual Disorders Treatment (IDDT).
- The Peer-run Wellness Program offers a variety of activities to promote the elements
of recovery -- hope, personal responsibility, education, self advocacy, and support.
Peer staff offer Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) groups, healthy activities,
socialization opportunities, and smoking cessation to promote hope and maximize wellness.
InterAct has been CARF accredited since 1995.
