The Wellness Center

The Wellness Center

InterAct’s Wellness Center is run by peer support specialist staff – individuals who currently or previously have received mental health and/or substance use services and can offer a shared experience. The Wellness Center offers a safe environment with a variety of activities to promote the key elements of recovery which include hope, personal responsibility, education, self-advocacy, and support.

Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP)

InterAct’s certified WRAP facilitators offer12 week WRAP classes to focus on recovery and self-determination utilizing the format developed by Mary Ellen Copeland (www.mentalhealthrecovery.com). WRAP is an educational program that teaches participants self-management skills for monitoring, reducing, and eliminating uncomfortable or dangerous physical symptoms and emotional feelings. WRAP enables people learn how to: 1) develop their own wellness toolboxes, 2) establish daily maintenance plans, 3) identify their triggers and early warning signs, 4) create crisis plans, and 5) develop personal support systems.

Healing from Trauma

Healing from Trauma is a course developed by Shannon Kaufmann, CPSS, to help participants learn to manage the uncomfortable effects of past trauma. The details of past trauma are not the focus, rather, participants engage in skill-building to heal. Topics such as hope, validation, boundaries, distress tolerance, and trauma education are discussed by the class which is led by trained Wellness Center facilitators who have recovered from trauma.

Personal Action Toward Health (PATH)

PATH is a chronic disease self-management program developed by Stanford University that helps participants build the skills they need for the day-to-day management of a chronic disease. PATH is a six-week workshop and covers topics including healthy eating, relaxation techniques, problem solving, and communication skills. This evidenced-based class is facilitated by two PATH-certified leaders.

Recovery in Action

Recovery in Action was written by two Certified Peer Support Specialist Wellness Center staff. Based on mental health recovery concepts, this 12 week class teaches participants to take action and be held accountable for their recovery. The workshop starts with participants sharing their personal recovery story, and leads in to topics which include mindfulness, managing challenging situations, emotional intelligence, and finding meaning in life.

Social Group

Social Group offers a safe, substance-free environment to provide opportunities for socialization and community inclusion. Creative expression, entertainment, and community outings take place throughout the month.

Writing Group

Writing Group provides an opportunity to use the tool of written expression. In this workshop participants learn different concepts in literature and how to use these concepts to express themselves in their personal recovery. This group is for people at all skill levels and appeals particularly to those who find journaling to be a valuable tool.

Art Group

In Art Group, participants have a space to work on creative expression. Both new and established artists are welcome to this class. Fiber arts, painting, drawing, and other activities are provided at no-cost.

One-on-One Servicess

The Wellness Center offers individual recovery coaching by trained Wellness Center peer staff. This experience provides tailored guidance, not therapy, on setting and attaining recovery goals.

In addition to recovery coaching, the Wellness Center is pleased to offer assistance with completing Advanced Directives and Crisis Plans. A trained Wellness Center facilitator will provide you with the necessary forms, explain the verbiage, and assist you in brainstorming your wishes in the event you are unable to express them.

Lastly, the Wellness Center offers opportunities to gain independence via bus training or grocery shopping assistance. A Wellness Facilitator will provide information on bus routes, as well as tailored guidance in selecting grocery items and budgeting grocery bills.
