DBT Outpatient Therapist - Kalamazoo

  • Provide direct services to participants.
  • Develop, follow, and respect individuals' person-centered treatment plans.
  • Resolve crisis situations.
  • Coordinate with community, KCMHSAS, SWMBH, and other systems that impact individuals served.
  • Provide weekly individual DBT/CBT/IDDT therapy sessions to assigned caseload.
  • Provide weekly group skills training to DBT/CBT/IDDT participants.
  • Provide individual skills training to DBT/CBT/IDDT participants.
  • Provide skills coaching by telephone as needed to DBT/CBT/IDDT participants.
  • Provide skills generalization contacts to DBT/CBT/IDDT participants as needed.
  • Provide back-up DBT/CBT/IDDT services to other participants as needed.
  • Provide other evidenced-based cognitive behavioral approaches to participants, as clinically needed.
  • Complete psychosocial assessments, including assessment of substance use disorders, for primary caseload.
  • Prepare person-centered treatment plans for participants according to agency standards and timeframes.
  • Complete progress notes for each service activity within one business day of contact.
  •  Routinely gather feedback from persons served.
  • Make self available for direct calls from participants during work hours, and for consultation during non- working hours.
  • Document crisis resolution.
  • Provide back‑up assistance to other therapists or CMH Emergency Mental Health workers in times of crisis, or as needed.
  • Effectively use problem-solving skills that reflect individuals' plans of service.
  • Maintain regular contact with CMH Hospital Liaison to coordinate between services and psychiatric hospitals in which participants are served.
  • Collaborate with SWMBH to address detox or other residential substance abuse service treatment services needed.
  • Coordinate medication services with assigned Psychiatrist or NP.
  • Maintain regular contacts with support systems to provide knowledge of program and services.




Minimum Requirements:  Fully Licensed LMSW OR LPC Required in a discipline related to the treatment of individuals with co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse disorders using evidence-based practices, current license, registration or certification for third party reimbursement. DBT, CBT and IDDT training preferred. Minimum of one-year previous experience providing individual and group therapy, previous experience providing DBT, CBT, and/or IDDT is preferred.  Ability to perform work in community settings which may not be barrier free. Knowledgeable about and supportive of culturally competent, evidenced based recovery and trauma informed practices.  Lived experiences with behavioral health issues are welcomed.
