  • Provide effective recovery-oriented direct services to Navigate participants that help them to meet their personal goals.
  • Encourage engagement in community-based activities by offering social support to Navigate participants.    
  • Provide support to families of persons served.  
  • Coordinate service activities with the Navigate Team.
  • Utilize engagement strategies including outreach and peer approaches to elicit individuals’ commitment to actively participate in treatment and enhance their recovery.             
  • Provide welcoming intake and orientation services to new referrals.
  • Share recovery story, inspire hope, and invite questions. 
  • Provide one-to-one recovery coaching that is strength-based and tailored to the specific recovery targets of individuals by using careful self-disclosure and offering hope, empathy, and reflective statements.
  • Provide advocacy and psychosis-informed peer supports that help participants address stigma and build successful socialization opportunities.
  • Communicate in a manner that demonstrates respect for persons served and others and that assures their right to privacy and confidentiality.
  • Join individuals in activities that focus on health, vocational, social, educational, and other treatment related goals.
  • Plan or assist in planning peer groups and events for individuals served by Navigate.
  • Link individuals to appointments to meet with the Navigate team and to participate in other identified treatment goals.
  • Link individuals to peer support and recovery events and peer run services.
  • Assist in linking individuals to community resources as they transition from of Navigate services.

Two years of college preferred and/or experience working with the target population.  Lived experience as a recipient of mental health and/or substance abuse services who has achieved a level of recovery consistent with performance of the job duties.  Interest in working with individuals experiencing first episode psychosis to help them achieve recovery.  Knowledgeable about and supportive of culturally competent, recovery and trauma-informed practices.  Good communication, motivation, and negotiation skills; organizational ability; and problem-solving needed.  Ability to follow instructions—written and verbal. Peer Support Specialist certification preferred, but not required.  Valid Michigan driver’s license and a vehicle to transport.  Ability to perform work in community settings which may not be barrier-free.
