Center for DBT Services Receives DBT-Linehan Board of Certification Status

InterAct’s Center for DBT Services has provided evidence-based treatment to people with complex clinical needs since 1999.  DBT Services Supervisor Gwen Abney-Cunningham has led the program since its onset and has guided the agency be one of the first organizations in the world to receive DBT Certification.  The DBT-Linehan Board of Certification (DBT-LBC) is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to develop certification standards for clinicians and DBT programs in order to promote the availability of competently delivered, effective DBT.  It is also the one and only, treatment-developer-approved DBT Certification program in the US.  The DBT-LBC certification program evaluates individual providers' DBT skills, knowledge, and abilities in order to determine if they are doing DBT from the evidence-based perspective. Individuals and their families, mental health professionals, governmental agencies, and insurance companies will be able to utilize the DBT Certification list to find highly qualified DBT providers.  Abney-Cunningham and DBT Therapist Dawn Bouaouad have each also received status as DBT-Linehan Board of Certification, Certified Clinician™.   Clinical Director Stephanie Lagalo states: “It was a daunting process to prepare for the DBT Certification review; however, we were not surprised by the positive response as we know Gwen and her team operate a high fidelity service.  Our thanks goes to the entire team including:  Gwen Abney-Cunningham, Dawn Bouaouad, Tina Egan, Ali Johnson, David Lawrence, Sarah Metz, Courtney Modelewski, Lyndsay Nuyen, Jessica Robb, Andre Wayne, and Kim Yore. “
